Why the VIN matters on a Mercedes
The same model can use different parts depending on the year, the engine and the specification. A C-Class W204, for example, changed several parts at the 2011 facelift, and a C200 can have an M271 or an M274 engine depending on the year. Left and right parts, AMG-line trim, and options like xenon headlights or air suspension all change the part number. The VIN tells us exactly which version your car is, so we can match the correct part number.
Where to find your VIN
- On your licence disc (the sticker on the windscreen), listed as the VIN or chassis number
- On the vehicle registration document (NaTIS)
- Stamped on a plate at the base of the windscreen, driver's side, visible from outside
- On the sticker inside the driver's door pillar
It is 17 characters long and starts with WDB, WDC, WDD, WMX or similar.
